and he didn’t even mention Wolfmother

Apologies for the two posts in one day. I’m just cleaning up my favourites and don’t really know where to put these clips, as i don’t want to clog up my newly created “Sounds” page (shameless, just shameless) with lots of clips of the same band. It’s supposed to promote diversity after all…promote diversity and allow me to structure the music that you listen to!

So here are all the clips of managed to find (so far) of a really great show! They shat all over the last time i saw them in Sydney before they broke up way back when.

The first clip is from my shitty camera uploaded on to Youtube. The breakdown/whistling part is apparently a Kraftwerk song who were playing the other stage at the time. I could watch it 1000 times when he turns back to the drummer to go back into the song…fricking awesome! You can watch it in proper quality in the clip below it.

6 witty retorts to “and he didn’t even mention Wolfmother”

  1. Berger says:

So this is what Mike Patton is up to these days… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qPsXRiV6yo4

Think I’ll stick to Wolfmother on this one.

  2. TomiHendrix says:

I find it funny how he is apparently reading sheet music for that…he treads on both sides of the line between insanity and genius that’s for sure.

  3. singer phil says:

    Hola muchachos!
I find it hilarious that you searched for a random crazy mike patton performance rather than a great wolfmother one to make a point.
i like mike patton doing stuff no one has dared to do, even if it sounds shite to most.at least theres a guy out there not afraid to step out of the norm. genius or a fool, or the greatest post-andy kaufman act..it doesnt matter. you can stick to wolfmother since they apparently know what’s cool nowadays. I like wolfmother (the old lineup), even if its an old sound (on crack, of course), and even though theyre not from the Philippines ;)

  4. Berger says:

I found it even more hilarious that all I had to do to find this video was type “mike patton” into YouTube, it’s one of the first few results returned. Go try it for yourself.

Let me just say I didn’t post the link with the intent of trying to make a comparison here. It was simply a slag off at Patton. Yes I’m aware of the irony but honestly if he can go around taking thoughtless swipes at people for doing what they enjoy (like Wolfmother) then surely I can as well right?

I’m happy to give the bloke credit for his unique vocal talent and the work he has done for music as a whole but at the end of the day that does not reserve him the right to publicly abuse other peoples’ pride and joy without taking his own into consideration. Looking back on his comments towards Wolfmother, I felt by including the link above others will see how pathetically hypocritical one can be. He and anyone else must be a fool to think directing such shallow abuse towards musicians (of considerable rating) will not be met with some sort of objection. I think it’s quite shameful to see such childish, idiotic comments come from someone who’s normally associated with terms such as genius, artist, revolutionist etc.

In no way shape or form am I trying to turn this humble blog into something that resembles a YouTube comment war but I really find Patton’s attack on Wolfmother an unjust act of cowardliness and stupidity. Who knows, maybe Patton was just looking for a cheap laugh? Perhaps he’s angry that Wolfmother seem to have got themselves off to a good start in today’s cut-throat music industry, or on a distant thought maybe he can’t face the fact that the glory days of FNM are gone and there are new kids on the block now. Either way it still leaves no right for senseless actions of this sort. From what I’ve heard Patton has a history of this type of behaviour. Is he trying to be the Eminem of the Alternative metal/Hip hop/Avant-garde/Beat box/1000000 Side projects/Dog barking/Rape scream/Corey Taylor roar/Monster noise scene?

I wouldn’t class Wolfmother’s music as something cool, far from it, but rather a revival of what the world said good-bye to several decades ago. While I’m very much flattered they hail from the same shores as myself at the end of the day I simply like them for the classic/hard rock music they represent (which is quite hard to come by these days). It’s a shame to see so many people these days adopt sour attitudes towards the “old stuff”. Just because all of the calssic/rock bands of the yesteryears have gone it doesn’t mean the music had to go with them.

  5. Squires says:

Berger used “at the end of the day”….

  6. TomiHendrix says:

And we’re going have to wait for flip to get back from Filippines for his retort i guess. I reckon he’s scared of you Strom and has run away rather than face up to your argument…that’s how i read it anyway.
